NEW DATE! Thrift Story

There is now a drop-off bin at the Podcast Garage (267 Western Ave) - please bring us your items during our open business hours!

Have you ever wanted to donate an item to a thrift store but just can’t let go because of the story behind it (like that camo hat you picked up at that amazing barbecue place in Austin, Texas)? Have you ever picked up an item at a thrift store and wished you knew the story behind it (like that T-shirt that reads "Cats Like To Dance, Too")?

Well, we have! We're Lydia Emmanouilidou, Amulya Shankar and Tristan Cimini - three public radio producers based in Boston. And here’s what we’re doing about it.

In collaboration with PRX Podcast Garage and Aeronaut Neighborhood Nights Allston, we'll be hosting a yard-sale-style event with a catch: all items come with their backstories.

Throughout the summer we’re hosting drop-off and pick-up sessions for those interested in donating their storied things. On September 20th, members of the community can join us in Allston to browse through these stories and, of course, the items to which they're attached. Each item is on sale for a flat fee.

During the event, you can share your stories inside the PRX Podcast Garage studio. And if you want to share new stories about your oh-so-storied possession - or see where your donated item ended up - you can do so anytime with #thriftstory.

So come by, have a beer, get some stories, and share some stuff at Thrift Story!

THE FINE PRINT

We’re limiting donations to clothing and small items.

Please hand-write your stories on index cards and attach them to your item. We ask that all stories be true, as remembered by the storyteller, but encourage all to get creative (for example, you could tell the story from the perspective of the item you're donating)! We also ask that you don't include your name on the card, but you can include your age and/or your current city.

All items must be in good condition and dropped off before the event date. We will also be coordinating item pick-ups.

For the most up-to-date drop-off and pick-up information, please visit www.thriftstory.org or email us at thriftstory2017@gmail.com.
