Mingle: Creators / Collaborators Skill Share

Stuck on an audio project?

Want to bring your non-audio skills to podcasters?

Whether you're looking for a full-time collaborator or just need to kick some ideas around, join us for a very special Maker Mingle: Creators / Collaborators, organized with our partners at AIR and Sonic Soiree. This event is designed to connect folks outside of their specialty areas, provide feedback on developing projects, and help each other think about our work from new perspectives.

The evening will include both a structured "speed dating"-style portion (like finding love, but for, like, audio love) and an unstructured mingle. This event is open to everyone, regardless of skill level or audio background.

  • Do you have an audio project you'd like help on? Sign up as a "Creator." You'll have one minute to say a few words about the project (and tell the group what sort of feedback/help you're looking for), then you'll get specific feedback from a group of knock-out audio makers. Maybe it's a full podcast series, maybe it's an audio-based public art piece; either way, your work doesn't need to be done. We're here to help.
  • Do you have skills to share? Sign up as a "Collaborator." Whether your specialty is digital marketing, scoring, fundraising, or sound mixing, this is a great opportunity to meet potential collaborators, make valuable connections across our field, and help audio makers up their game. Meant for freelancers, students, and professionals alike, you don't need to have ever worked on a podcast to be a "Collaborator"!

Yes, we know that "making" is not binary; most folks aren't just one or the other. But sign up for what feels right today.

Due to the event's intimate size and our hope to include a variety of skills and projects, not everyone who signs up will be able to attend. We will alert everyone about their participation by May 23 or sooner.

RSVP is required; Registration is now closed. We look forward to seeing you next month for our open "Maker Mingle."

As always, this Maker Mingle is free and will take place at the PRX Podcast Garage.

ABOUT OUR PARTNERS

The Association of Independents in Radio (AIR) is a vibrant international network of 1,200 makers powering public media and podcasting. The Boston-based organization identifies, cultivates and deploys storymakers to deepen understanding of and bring enlightenment to people worldwide. Since 2010, AIR’s national incubator, Localore, has engaged more than 400 independent, station-based, and community producers creating work that spans digital, broadcast, and street media platforms — challenging and inspiring other media makers to join in at AIRmedia.org. AIR’s most recent report to the field, “Break Form: Making Stories With and For The People,” provides insights into making community-driven stories and shares AIR’s vision for a more inclusive public media to push beyond convention and embrace new forms of stories.

The Sonic Soiree is a potluck of the edible and audible, occurring monthly in living rooms throughout Greater Boston. We are a community of radio producers, sound artists and collaborators who come together to talk, eat, listen, and then talk some more.

The PRX Podcast Garage located in Allston was founded in August 2016, PRX, the award-winning public media company and founder of Radiotopia to support the work of local audio and storytelling enthusiasts. Our facilities feature a four-person studio with state-of-the-art recording and mixing equipment and a classroom space for audio producers. We host weekly events on the art and business of podcasting. Our membership also provides independent producers with the time, tools, and community to make their shows.

Our programming is supported in part by an award from the National Endowment for the Arts. To find out more about how National Endowment for the Arts grants impact individuals and communities, visit www.arts.gov.
