So you’ve found a great story participant, you’ve collected hours of tape. You think there’s a tightly-edited, beautifully-structured narrative in there somewhere...but how do you carve it out and assemble it?

In this workshop, we’ll learn the building blocks of structure (scene, beats, etc). Then, using a case study, we’ll look at how the episode structure came together. We’ll look at story boards, early scripts and notes from editors as well as listen to rough cuts excerpts from the episode to understand how a longform documentary comes together. Finally, you’ll have an opportunity to put the skills into practice with a short exercise.
