Some of the greatest stories we have to tell are close to home, but that doesn’t make those stories easy to tell.
In this weekend workshop you will learn how to turn the microphone towards yourself. You’ll come away from the workshop feeling more comfortable writing about and recording your story, thinking strategically about how to tell your story, and defining healthy boundaries in your work.

This session is a chance to get introduced to, and familiar with, the importance and challenges of personal storytelling. You will explore the different approaches one can take towards telling a personal story and discuss successful examples of personal work.
SUNDAY | 12:00 p.m. - 3:00 p.m.
This session of the workshop will focus on strategy for personal storytelling. This will include drafting outlines, identifying potential scenes, interviewees, or material to be used in the work. This session will to help participants sharpen the focus of their stories and be intentional in their approach to telling it. Participants will walk away with a clear vision and strategy on how to move forward with a personal project.
ABOUT THE INSTRUCTOR
Sayre Quevedo is a multimedia artist and journalist based in New York City. He works across mediums, with audio at the heart of the work, to tell intimate stories about family, relationships, and history. He is the creator of Re:Construcción, a transnational multimedia exhibit that investigates the impact of the Salvadoran Civil War of the 1980's. His contribution to the exhibit, 'Las Mesas' tells the story of six individuals and families whose lives were changed by the conflict through a combination of audio testimonials, household objects, and photographs. His work has been recognized by Vulture, Indiewire, Remezcla, The International Documentary Association, Third Coast International Audio Festival, and Hearsay Festival. Quevedo currently works as an Associate Producer for NPR's Latino USA while pursuing independent projects and collaborations with artists, journalists, and filmmakers.
PRICING
The cost of this two day workshop is $150.00 for non-members and $100.00 for members of the Podcast Garage or members of the Harvard Ed Portal (i.e. any Allston-Brighton resident).
