Se’era Spragley Ricks, Community Manager at Podcast Garage D.C. | she/her/hers

I am a Hampton Roads, Virginia, native with a strong passion for multimedia storytelling and community engagement. The focal point and catalyst of my goals has been uplifting diverse, innovative and underrepresented voices. I have sought out opportunities to engage and collaborate with my community to serve, build partnerships and bring amazing content that resonates and connects us. Prior to the Podcast Garage, I specialized in marketing, events and special projects at WAMU 88.5, Daily Press Media Group and Christopher Newport University’s Ferguson Center for the Arts. Now I am continuing that work by helping to remove barriers for independent podcasters, providing a platform for diverse voices and ensuring the Podcast Garage is a welcoming space that celebrates the culture of our region and inspires new and collaborative ideas. In my spare time, I love to read (memoirs are my go-to), watch anything by Ava Duvernay, and of course find and listen to new podcasts (Still Processing, The Nod, Bad Brown Aunties… the list goes on.)

I’m managing the construction and development of the second Podcast Garage in Washington, D.C. In another life, I was a boutique event planner and donor communications strategist at NPR and The Pew Charitable Trusts. In my free time, I serve as the Volunteer Coordinator and Grants Manager for the D.C. Listening Lounge's annual Sound Scene audio art festival, write about community engagement and new revenue models in public radio for Current, and mentor young journalists through the YMCA Youth & Government program. I’m out to make vibrant communities, help radio-makers thrive, and keep audio weird.
